History:

      Photos of Tractor Trailers can be found dating from the 1920's riding on flatcars for tranport to distant cities.

     I was told Sea Container use was started by the U.S. government in the 1950's to transfer cargo to troops in Korea. But for a long time incoming Sea Containers still had to be unoaded by longshoremen when they arrrived at U.S. Ports (Job security provided by Union Contracts). Eventually agreements worked out with Unions allowed containers to be loaded directly off ships onto truck chassis or railcars.

     But at first due to bridge clearances and low tunnels only one container per flatcar could be used. But slowly the railroads rebuilt their right of ways to allow the "double stack" concept, today the "double stack" trains are a common site anywhere in the USA and carry the bulk of freight traffic all over the USA, and move maybe 20X the amount of traffic interstate trucks move today.

      Every model railroad should have quite a few of them. Roadnames all have multiple car numbers. (3 per roadname) But we do not list the car #s separately. If you order more than one car of same roadname we will try to give you an assortment of car numbers. But since we are closing out the current stock, we can not guarantee to have an assortment of car numbers on hand when you order.

Couplers:

      All these cars come with the "Rapido style" couplers. We are told the MT-1128 will fit these cars. However, we will also include at no charge, a pair of our non-operating "N" dummy couplers that will mate with the MT couplers with each car shipped to you, so you can exchange the "Rapido style" for our non-operating dummy couplers if you so desire.
