Here is a Video of the final version of the "HO" Powered "MU" mP54 cars (Pennsylvania & Long Island versions), filmed at the "HO" model train club
owned by the Southern Arizona Society of Engineers in Tucson Arizona, in Nov. 2011.
The Lead MU model has the "optional" "DCC" Sound /function Decoder installed. It will run out of the box for you in "DC" mode without sound.
Optional DCC Sound/Function decoder may be purchased seperately.

All Engineering Details have now been approved on this great "HO" Model, and we expect delivery in early 2012.

Powered "MU" mP54 Units Coming in 2012

      Con-Cor Trains is proud to announce we will be shipping the motorized version of the famous Pennsylvania/ Long Island mP54 "MU" Passenger Cars. These will be great companion cars to the "Steam Era" mP54 series of cars already released.

Note Final models may differ slightly from photos shown.

     We will be doing Powered and Non-Powered versions of the famous Pennsylvania mP54 units, both with and without Pantographs (without Pantographs for the Long Island Railroad version) These versions of the mP54 are the "middle years", and come with the roof mounted headlights at both ends, and the correct PRR Pantographs.

Features and Comments about these new "MU" mP54 Models:

     Please Note: There was a wide variety of classes and sub-classes so our car might not match "identically" a photo you might find in a book, or on the web. In fact some of the photos we have found have been mis-identified anyway. Some cars were modified as time went by, so the way they looked one day, was not the way the same car looked a few weeks later, although the Car Number remained the same. (Although in the Pennsy records the cars' Classification number might have changed.)

(Optional Sound/function decoder available.) -- One Powered Truck per powered unit, so we can detail interiors as much as possible.*See note below about pulling efficiency. -- Complete Interior details (Except for areas needed for the mechanism on Powered cars) -- Accurate paint schemes (Per PRR Historical Society and other reference materials per time era.

Stock Numbers and Varieties of "MU" mP54 Units...

     We understand these "MU" units usually ran in trains of 4 to 6 cars. (Yes, we know sometimes on the branch lines only 1 or 2 car trains could be found, and in heavy rush hours longer trains might have been seen. But usually the lenght of the trains was limited to the lenght of the passenger platforms available on the various routes.)
     We are designing the Powered cars with one power truck which should be enough on most flat layouts to pull 2-3 trailers in addition to the Power car. There are two reasons for this.
     #1) This allows us to put almost full interiors into the cars, as well as almost full underbody detailing.
     #2) These prototype cars had one powered truck on one end and a non-powered on other end, these trucks had different wheel bases. (Usually 8'-6" for Pwd and 8'-0" for non-powered truck. If we wanted to power both trucks we would have to design a far more complex mechanism system and two different gear boxes for powering trucks with two different wheel bases. Plus we would not be able to detail the interiors and underbody as much as we need space for universal shafts etc to join both gear boxes together.
     In talking with a lot of modelers at Train Shows, the majority seem to rather have the choice of buying two powered units to "MU" to run longer trains, than lose the features of interior and underbody detailing.

For the Pennsylvania Railroad we will be offering three car bodies (Coach, Baggage-Mail and Combine ) cars in 3 versions:
Powered with Pantographs and with Roof Top Headlights at each end.
Non-Powered with Pantographs and with Roof Top Headlights at each end
Non-Powered Trailer Cars, no pantographs, but Roof top headlights at each end.

Decoders for the Pennsylvania & Long Island MU mP54 Models.
There will be two different decoders for the "MU" mP54 models.
One will be a full function Sound and Function Decoder and the 2nd version will be a "Function" only decoder for those who only want to run one Unit with sound, but run a 2nd Powered unit "In consist" for added pulling power. Decoders only need to be added to powered models which include a motor if you want to run them in "DCC" mode.
All powered models will run just fine out of the box in "DC" only mode.
